Professional Counselling Services

At Obelisk Psychological Therapies, our focus is on you - your story, your needs, and your goals, and we will work alongside you to find the path that feels right. We see therapy as a genuine partnership: a space where, together, we can explore what’s happening in your life, make sense of your experiences, and find practical, meaningful ways to move forward.

About Me

Myles Chadwick, BSc (Hons), MSc, Prof. Dip Psy C.

I’m Myles Chadwick, a counsellor and psychotherapist, and the founder of Obelisk Psychological Therapies. I’m an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), and I’ve dedicated my career to supporting people through some of life’s most difficult experiences.

My academic journey began with Psychology at the University of Liverpool, followed by further study in Forensic Psychology and Mental Health at the University of Manchester. I later completed a Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling Practice. But while my training gave me a solid foundation, it’s the people I’ve worked with who have shaped me most as a therapist.

For several years, I’ve worked with a worldwide homelessness charity, supporting individuals living with complex mental health diagnoses, dual-diagnosis, and difficulties around substance misuse and dependency. I also spent part of my training at a national charity for people affected by suicide, domestic abuse, bereavement, and workplace challenges. These experiences deepened my understanding of resilience, and taught me the importance of meeting each person exactly where they are.

I describe myself as a pluralistic therapist because I don’t believe in a “one-size-fits-all” approach. Every person is unique, and so the therapy should be too. I work collaboratively, drawing on a range of therapeutic methods, but always guided by your goals, your pace, and your story.

I have experience working with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, adverse childhood experiences, bereavement and loss, stress, major life changes, relationship struggles, couples and family conflict, identity issues, low confidence and self-esteem, and difficulties around anger and emotional regulation.

What matters most to me is creating a safe and non-judgemental space, where you feel heard, respected, and supported. I see therapy as a partnership: together, we can explore what’s going on for you, make sense of your experiences, and find new ways forward.

My approach.

At Obelisk Psychological Therapies, I aim to create a space where you feel supported, understood, and empowered to explore your experiences.

I practice pluralistic therapy, which means I draw on a range of approaches and techniques rather than adhering to one single method. This allows me to tailor therapy to you as an individual, using the tools and strategies that best fit your needs, goals, and preferences. For you, this means therapy is flexible and responsive: we can explore different ways of understanding your experiences and working through challenges without being confined to a rigid framework.

Some of the therapeutic models I have experience with include:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – exploring thoughts, feelings, and behaviours to develop practical coping strategies

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) – supporting emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and mindful awareness

  • Psychodynamic Therapy – exploring unconscious patterns and past experiences that shape current behaviour

  • Person-Centred Therapy – focusing on empathy, respect, and collaboration to support self-discovery and growth

  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) – working towards concrete goals and practical solutions

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) – developing psychological flexibility and values-based action

  • Existential Therapy – exploring meaning, purpose, and personal responsibility

  • Mindfulness-Based Approaches – cultivating present-moment awareness and acceptance

While my approach is pluralistic, it is grounded in a humanistic foundation, which means I focus on creating a supportive and understanding environment where you are encouraged to explore, reflect, and build on your own insights and strengths.

Ultimately, my goal is to provide a supportive, adaptable, and understanding space where you can feel heard, explore what matters to you, and move toward meaningful change at your own pace.

**You may notice the terms counselling and psychotherapy being used, and it’s important to know that, in practice, there’s very little difference between them. Both offer a safe, confidential environment to explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and the terms are often used interchangeably depending on the context.

How It Works

  • Step 1: Make Contact

    BEGIN THE CONVERSATION.

We look forward to connecting with you and exploring how we can support you.
You can email us directly at contact@obeliskpsychologicaltherapies.co.uk or use the Contact Us form on our website. You may wish to briefly outline the reason you’re seeking support or simply request to book an individual session or block of sessions. If you’d like to learn more before committing, we can arrange a short discovery call to discuss your needs. Together, we’ll find a date and time that works for you.

  • Step 2: Complete the Initial Consultation Form

    SHARE WHAT’S IMPORTANT.

Once your appointment is arranged, you’ll receive an Initial Consultation Form to complete. This form collects essential personal information and details about your presenting issues. It also includes our terms and conditions, contract agreement, and privacy notice. If you’ve booked a discovery call, you won’t receive this form straight away , you’ll only be asked to complete it if you decide to begin therapy. You can use this stage to decide whether to book an individual session or a block of sessions. There’s never any pressure; we’ll work at your pace.

  • Step 3: Review and Payment

    ENSURING THE BEST FIT,

After you return your completed form, I will carefully review the information provided. If I feel your presenting issue exceeds my professional competency, I’ll help you find a therapist who specialises in your area of need. If we proceed, a payment link will be sent to you via email. All payments are kindly requested at least 48 hours before the scheduled appointment.

  • Step 4: Your First Session

    BEGIN YOUR THERAPUTIC JOURNEY.

An hour before your appointment, you’ll receive a secure video link via email. Please log in a few minutes before your session is due to start. From there, we’ll begin your therapeutic journey - a safe, confidential space to explore, reflect, and grow.

  • Booking Subsequent Sessions

    CONTINUING YOUR JOURNEY.

At the end of each appointment, we can arrange your next session together to ensure continuity that suits your schedule. Alternatively, you’re welcome to book follow-up sessions later via email. You will not need to complete a new consultation form for each appointment - your details will remain securely on file.
